Breaking news from EX Swimrun

Swimrun friends!

We have some historic and exciting news to share with you.

We are launching the first-ever Para-Swimrun race together with none other than the adventurer and inspirational speaker Aron Andersson. We could not be prouder that this pioneer of extreme sports has chosen to join forces with us to help create this new discipline: Para-Swimrun.

Following the recent inclusion of Swimrun in the Swedish Triathlon Federation, the timing felt right to launch this new sport that we have been looking at for some time as we are all about inclusion and inspiring more people to try Swimrun.

Sweden’s largest newspaper, Dagens Nyheter (DN), has just published an amazing article about EX Para-Swimrun with Aron Andersson. Read it here via the link below!

Read more about Para-Swimrun, how this unique opportunity will affect the planned Supersprint race, and how you can become part of this historic event below.

EX PARA-SWIMRUN WITH ARON ANDERSSON

The race will take place on 29 August 2026 as part of EX Edsviken and is an inclusive Swimrun event for people with disabilities. The course is approximately 5 km with alternating running and swimming in an adapted and accessible environment.

Participants compete in flexible teams of three, where one person acts as a support, helping transport wheelchairs or equipment between transitions. The goal is to enable more people to experience Swimrun – regardless of previous experience.

“I have always believed that adventure has no limits – only the limits we set ourselves. EX Para Swimrun is about breaking down those barriers. Swimming and racing side by side in Edsviken and crossing the finish line together is an experience that changes the perception of what is possible. This is the beginning of something much bigger.” - Aron Andersson

EX Para Swimrun is not just a race – it is the beginning of something bigger, with the ambition to inspire, increase visibility and develop a more inclusive Swimrun sport in Sweden.

SUPERSPRINT 2027 - AIMING FOR SM VECKAN IN VÄXJÖ

Faced with this incredible opportunity to launch a brand new sport, we have made a conscious decision to focus 100% on the EX Edsviken and EX Para-Swimrun races this year. Therefore, we will be postponing the EX Supersprint race until 2027.

That said, our ambition for the Supersprint format is very much alive. Our long-term goal is to have it included in the Swedish Championships Week 2027 (SM-veckan), a unique national platform created by the Swedish Sports Confederation (Riksidrottsförbundet) together with SVT and host cities. SM-veckan exists precisely to showcase both established and emerging sports, bringing them together in a high-profile, televised format that gives new disciplines national exposure and the chance to crown official Swedish Champions in front of a broad audience.

With that in mind, we are now setting our sights on working towards having the Supersprint included in SM-veckan next year. This would not only mean significant media coverage and a much larger race experience, but also the opportunity to crown the very first Swedish Champion in Swimrun Supersprint.

We hope to begin this process as soon as possible and, fingers crossed, that Riksidrottsförbundet, SVT, Svenska Triathlonförbundet and the City of Växjö (host of SM-veckan 2027) see the same potential in this as we do.
